SEMI-ANNUAL SURVEILLANCE REPORT A total of 13,818 notifiable diseases were reported by the 10 Sentinel Surveillance Hospitals from January 1 to June 28, 2013. NOTIFIABLE DISEASES IN THE REGION:
Figure 1 - Cases admitted in the 10 sentinel hospitals Among the diseases monitored, Influenza-like Illness ranks first at 6,896 cases. Dengue cases of 5,615, second, 51% are from Davao City. Third is Typhoid Fever cases. One hundred sixty-seven (167) fatalities noted. MEASLES CASES
Trend A total of 114 suspect measles cases was reported from the different DRUs (Disease Reporting Unit) in Davao Region from January 1 to June 28,2013. This is 67% lower compared to the same period last year. There were no deaths for 2012. Figure 2 - Distribution of Measles cases by province Profile of Cases Ages of cases ranged from 3mos to 62y.o. (median = 31y0.). Majority of cases were female (55%). 18% of cases belonged to the less than 5yo. There is only 1 equivocal result from Davao City. Five (5) year trend shows increase in the middle of the year probably due to start of the rainy season. The epicurve shows the cases reached the epidemic threshold. Dengue suspects total to 5,615. Most of the cases came from Davao City (51%). 52% were males. 1,296 of the cases are from the agegroup 5 to 9 years old. ACUTE BLOODY DIARRHEA CASES Acute Bloody Diarrhea cases total to 348. 63% of the cases came from Davao City, particularly in the Districts of Buhangin, Talomo North and South and Tugbok. There are 182 males and 166 females. Most of the cases belong to the agegroup of 1 to 4 years old and 40 years old and above. ACUTE WATERY DIARRHEA Monitoring cases of Acute Watery Diarrhea is not routinely done by the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit, but seeing significant increase in cases as shown in figure 9, below, that shows that number of cases have exceeded alert levels. The various Epidemiology Surveillance Units have been informed and provided with recommendations for action.

HIV AND OTHER SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS (STI) Pursuant to AO No. 2005-0027 through a memorandum from Assistant Secretary for Health and Director IV, National Epidemiology Center Dr. Enrique Tayag dated February 15,2012; Heads/Chief of Clinics, Laboratories and Blood Banks are required to submit monthly report of detected HIV/STI cases to NEC/RESU. Reports are collected from 27 accredited HIV Testing Laboratories in the Davao Region. Data collected include confirmed HIV results, positive for Syphilis, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and Gonorrhea. Also collected are results from testing of blood units in blood banks. Davao Region is one of the five major contributors to the National HIV Registry, sharing 6% in April 2013.
