ANNUAL SURVEILLANCE REPORT
JANUARY - DECEMBER 2006  

A total of 2,646 notifiable diseases were monitored by the Sentinel Surveillance Staff from 8 different hospital sentinel sites (Brokenshire Hospital, Davao Doctors Hospital,  Davao Medical Center, Davao Oriental Provincial Hospital, Davao Regional Hospital, Digos National Hospital, Limso Medical Center and San Pedro Hospital). Two thousand two hundred fifty-four (85.2%) dengue cases, one hundred sixty-four (6.2%) typhoid fever cases, seventy (2.6%) hepatitis b cases, fifty-six (2.1%) non-neonatal tetanus cases, forty-one (1.5%) malaria cases, thirty-one (1.2%) hepatitis a cases, eleven ((0.4%) leptospirosis cases, eight (0.3%) menigococcemia cases, five (0.2%) pertussis cases, three (0.1%) rabies cases, two (0.1%) cholera cases and one diphtheria case. Among the 2,646 cases monitored, there were 39 fatalities noted.

Majority of the notifiable diseases monitored were from Davao City (71.4%), followed by Davao del Norte (8.5%), Davao del Sur (6.6%), Davao Oriental (5.4%), Compostela Valley (2.6%), North Cotabato (3.4%), Agusan del Sur (1%), Surigao del Sur (0.6%), Sultan Kudarat (0.2%), Maguindanao (0.2%), South Cotabato (0.1%) and Sarangani Province. 

In Davao City, cases were from the following areas: Buhangin District (484 cases), Talomo District (482 cases), Davao Poblacion (383 cases), Agdao District (208 cases), Bunawan District (156 cases), Toril District (72 cases), Tugbok District (46 cases), Calinan District (33 cases), Marilog District (10 cases), Paquibato District (10 cases) and Baguio District (4 cases).

Among the diseases monitored, dengue fever ranks first. 57.3% of the cases were Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever while 42.7% were Dengue Fever cases. One thousand one hundred fifty-eight (1,158) were males and one thousand ninety-six (1,096) was females. Ages of the cases ranged from 0 to 79 years old with the mean age of 10 years. Majority of the cases reported were from Davao City. Nineteen deaths noted.
